Air conditioners are so important that there is a statue of the man who invented them in the US Capitol building. As a result, many people take their purchase of one very seriously. They make sure that they are getting one that has the highest cooling capabilities and is the most energy efficient so that they can keep their house cool and not break the bank. However, while these are the most important factors that you need to consider when purchasing an air conditioner, there are three other commonly overlooked factors that you should also think about before making your final decision.

1. How Loud It Is

For some people, having a loud air conditioner can be a blessing, especially if it's in their room. If they plan to keep the air conditioner running all night, the frequent sound will fade into the background and block out all of the other extraneous noises, such as cars on the street, garbage collectors, and sirens. For people who sleep lightly, finding an air conditioner that makes as little noise as possible will help ensure that you are able to sleep soundly.

2. Whether or Not There's a Switch That Only Uses a Fan

Another factor to consider is whether or not you can choose the run the air conditioning unit with only the fan, rather than cooling the air and then funneling it into the house. This is helpful because during the night, you might not necessarily need to run the cooling part of the air conditioner because you'll be able to suck in already-cool air from the outside. Having a fan-only option will allow you to save a great deal on your energy costs if you choose to run your air conditioner during the night.

3. The Presence of a Filter Light

You will want to make sure that the air conditioner that you purchase has a light on it to alert you that you need to change the filter. The way that the light works is that it goes on after a certain amount of time running the unit has passed since the filter was changed. Unless you are very good with air conditioning systems, you will want a reminder to change the filter in order to make sure that your air conditioning unit is not damaged and runs as long as possible.
