Summer is one of the times where your HVAC system is used the most. That is why you want to make sure that you take care of your HVAC system properly before summer wraps up. You have a few weeks to finish up summer maintenance on your HVAC system.
Change Out That Dirty Filter
You have been using your HVAC system all summer. You have been running it day and night, and pumping tons of air through your air condition system. All of the air that is pumped through your home has to first go through your air filter.
Over time, the air filter is going to get dirty. Although you cannot see it, there is lots of dust, dirt, and pollen in the air. Your air filter helps remove all that debris and ensures that you are breathing air that is clean and fresh.
After a long summer of using your HVAC system, you need to change out the air filter to a fresh one for the heating season. That way, you can continue to enjoy fresh air throughout the winter.
Putting in a clean air filter also relieves some stress on your air conditioning system. It is able to work more effectively.
Check The Wiring for Wear
Next, you need to check the wiring on your air conditioning unit for wear. This is a step that is often forgotten. However, the wiring can get worn down over time. Check the wiring that runs to the outside part of your unit and make sure that the wire is not broken or damaged in any way.
If the wiring is worn down, you are going to want to have HVAC contractors replace it. It is very risky to run an HVAC system with damaged wiring. Damaged wiring could cause further damage to the unit, or it could cause an electric fire within your home. Wiring can get damaged over time, so this is an important check for older units.
Inspect & Clean the Condenser Coils
Finally, you are going to want to inspect and clean the condenser coils on the unit. The condenser unit is and coils are located outside of your home. Over time, it is common for dirt and debris to get into your condenser coils. Luckily, they are easy to clean if you just spray them down with a garden hose and spray attachment.
